Emphasis on Site Content
You need to place an emphasis on strong and effective site content as the foundation for SEO. This includes focusing on:

  • Effective use of headlines
  • Effective use of keywords in body text
  • Use of short, topic specific pages

Page Design Techniques
When creating your pages, be sure to apply the following techniques:

  • Keyword phrase weighting of:
    - Titles, Description Meta and Keyword Meta tags
    - Alt and H1 tags
    - Body text
  • Keyword weighting of body text through keyword phrase:
    - Frequency
    - Density
    - Proximity to top
  • Keyword weighting of URLs
  • Keyword repetition (as allowed by search engines)

Domains and File Structure
To encourage indexing of the entire site you need to identify:

  • Identify if additional domains may be appropriate
  • Review website file structure and hierarchy
  • Identify site map requirements
Dynamic Pages
Review your dynamically generated pages to identify if your dynamic pages are search engine indexable.

"Doorway" and "Hallway" Pages
Doorway pages are pages that only link into your site and are designed specifically for search engines. (We recommend restrained use of doorway pages as many search engines consider these "spam" and can actually penalize sites that use them.)

Hallway pages can be important on large sites or sites with deep hierarchical file structures. It may be appropriate to develop and implement a strategy in this area.

Splash and Flash Pages
To minimize the undesired negative impact that splash and Flash pages can have on the search engine indexing of a site, it is important to avoid ensure that these pages are search engine friendly. This includes avoiding using redirects as many search engines will not follow redirected pages.

Site Submission Techniques
To improve search engine submission results and to speed page listing time frames you should:

  • Identify appropriate search engines including:
    - Top-tier directories and search engines
    - General business, industry specific and specialty
  • Identify appropriate pages of your site for submission
  • Perform hand submission to the top-tier search engines
  • Link to your site from the well-established POP site
  • Verify your search engine indexing and positioning
  • Re-submit as required

Search Engine Positioning Results and Follow Up
To verify and monitor your search engine positioning results, we recommend performing the following activities monthly, quarterly or as needed:

  • Conduct search engine ranking analysis
  • Review site usage statistic
  • Perform SEO refinement and re-submission
